A brief history of Audemars Piguet

Audemars Piguet is a family business remaining in the hands of its founding families based in the Vallée de Joux where it was originally created. Jules Louis Audemars (1851–1918) and Edward Auguste Piguet (1853–1919) set up business in 1875, they were in their early twenties and respectively fourth and fifth-generation watchmakers.
Between 1892, when the first minute repeater wristwatch was sold, and 1965, the company ledgers count a total of 550 complicated wristwatches.
Each of the 550 wristwatches was engraved with a serial number, hand-written in the company ledgers. They include: 35 minute repeating wristwatches: Movements made from 1882 to 1930; cased and sold between 1892 and 1960. 188 calendar wristwatches, including: - 176 calendar wristwatches made from 1921 to 1930 and from 1945 to 1950; cased and sold between 1924 and 1967. - 12 perpetual calendar wristwatches made from 1947 to 1957; cased and sold between 1959 and 1969. The 9 references produced between 1955 and 1957 were equipped with leap-year indication. 307 chronograph wristwatches: Movements made from 1930 to 1946; cased and sold between 1930 and 1962. 20 double complications (chronograph and calendar combination): Movements made from 1941 to 1943; cased and sold between 1942 and 1959.
The Royal Oak launched in 1972. the first Royal Oak Offshore in 1993, the first Royal Oak Concept in 2002, the Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie in 2016, the Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin in 2018 and the Manufacture’s latest collection, Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet in 2019.
